BEWARE of children having too much fun and breaking your curtain rod.

Double Trouble. I can not count how many times I have heard that. Yes, I have twins. Yes they are a handful. Yes they sure do cause trouble - but it is so much more than that. It is double the love, kisses, hugs, tears, fears, celebrations and un-measurable joy. Being a single mom is not something I dreamed about but it all works out in the end.

My boys and I have had our share of struggles over the last five years. There have been plenty of times when sadness, fear, disgust, and anger ruled my days. However, I continually seek JOY.

Feelings are complex but also so simple.

Makes You Think Monday - Relationships

I have seen a lot of those facebook quizzes and apps popping up about your soulmate, your best friend, who are you most like, etc. etc. Lists about the 5 friends you don't need in your life. Once a friendship has lasted 7 years, it will last for life.  They are fun, but let's be honest, they are bullshit!

Relationships, whether with family, friend or loved ones either works or doesn't work. There isn't a magic recipe or special list that will make a relationship work, last or be something for the history books. Relationships boil down to people. A mother and daughter. Best friends. Siblings. A father and a daughter. Close friends. Mother and son. Dad and son. Grandparents and grandchildren. Cousins. Bible study group. In-laws. I could go on and on but you get the point. We all want these relationships in our lives. Even those of us they say we are FINE on our own. The first person we have to start with is ourselves.

This is me, earlier this month, this was a good day. No faked smile here.

Yes, I know it is the corny - you have to love yourself before you can love another - main idea - but this is with a twist. A mental illness twist.

Toss and Trade In

I recently started a Mary Kay business. I didn't plan to do this. I was invited by a friend to enjoy a free facial. I went, I tried the skin care line, I liked it. I told her I would buy some product but I just wanted to be a customer. My friend explained how Mary Kay has an amazing business plan. She offered me a free smoothie to sit down and talk. I met up with her a few days later and realized what an awesome opportunity this could be for my family.

As a single mom, it is impossible to cover the cost of daycare while working at a minimum wage job. Mary Kay allows me the flexibility and financial freedom I needed in a job. I would love to share a smoothie, coffee or soda with you and discuss the Mary Kay business plan.

This Sunday, June 14th, 2015 - I am hosting my LAUNCH PARTY. This is a chance for you to receive a complimentary facial, enjoy some girl time, and earn raffle tickets for prizes.
I am also offering a special deal: Bring in an old mascara that left you wanting something better and save $2 on a new MK Ultimate Mascara. This deal ends on Monday, June 15th.

Single Moms Guide to Simple Car Care

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser.
All opinions are mine alone. #FueltheLove #CollectiveBias

Taking care of my car is very important to me because I didn't have one for four long years. Yes, four years! During this time my boys went from babies to preschoolers. Four long years taking public transportation, paying for taxi cabs, walking and begging for rides. This year at tax time I was able to use my tax refund to purchase a used car. It has dents and scratches but it has low miles and runs well.

I was lucky enough to buy from a friend's mechanic husband. I knew I could trust him. I am not sure if you have run into this problem; but I have had certain sales people, mechanics and service technicians try to charge more money because I am a single gal. I have done my research though and try to make good decisions to keep my car running for years to come.

My boys and I are usually at Walmart once per week if not more. It is convenient and has all the items we need for our household. It is nice to have an Auto Care Center that I can trust, plus I can shop and keep my boys occupied. Have you tried to sit in a waiting are with your children? Old car magazines, the smell of tires, bad coffee and a dirty restroom. Not exactly a fun time for a couple of 5 year old boys. Being able to grab groceries or look at the toy department makes the wait bearable for this single mom.

When we got to the store we drove around to the side of the building. There was one car in the bay and we were next. Within a minute a tech came out to car and asked how they could help me. I explained that I needed an oil change. He told me to leave the car and come inside to get the service order started. This was the first oil change I was getting since I had purchased the car.

My car is a 1997 Chevy Lumina with almost 90,000 miles on it. Based on how old it is the mileage is lower than expected. However, it is still considered high mileage and needs a specific oil to help it run to its full potential. Right now, Walmart is offering lower pricing on its services.

From June 10th - September 9th, Pennzoil oil changes will be on Rollback at Walmart ACC {Automotive Care Center} stores.

High Mileage $35.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $39.88. {Industry standard price is $46}
Platinum Full Synthetic $45.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $49.88. {Industry standard price $66}

I have to admit that while I can change a tire, and have done some minor work under the hood - I don't know much about changing the oil on my car. Here is some information that I got from Walmart and Pennzoil for those that are in a similar spot.
All Pennzoil products help clean out sludge lesser oils leave behind. Pennzoil is designed for complete protection and will allow you to drive an extra of 550 miles per year vs. a dirty engine. No other motor oil provides better protection from friction.
High Mileage Vehicle – Helps to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. It's a motor oil that is specifically designed for new or late model vehicles with over 75,000 miles, to help keep the engines running clean and going strong for a long time.Pennzoil Warranty: Pennzoil also offers a free warranty that covers 15 engine parts that may fail due to engine wear or which experience abnormal wear due to friction. (For more information, check out the Pennzoil Warranty Site.)

My car is now set for the summer. My boys and I don't have any big plans but we will be driving from Flagstaff to Phoenix and back again once a month. My boys are going to stay with their grandma for a week each month. It will be a much needed break for this tired mama.

What are your plans for the summer? Are you traveling? Busy with soccer or baseball for the kids? Are you going to visit Grandma? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Birthday Christian!

Twenty years ago I was at Scottsdale Osborn Hospital begging the doctors to help me. I had been hooked up to an epidural since 7 am that morning and I was still very pregnant. It would only be a little while longer before I became a mom.

My oldest son turns 20 in the morning. (Yes, I know I don't look old enough to have a child that old. Thank you.) He was born at 3:26 am on a Thursday morning. He was 9lbs and 7 oz. I was 18 years old. I had no idea how much my life was going to change.

I know I haven't been a perfect mother but I have done my best. Thankfully my son has turned out to be an amazing man. We have had plenty of hard times and frustrations over the years but we made it through; even though I wasn't sure we would. He became a big brother just before his 15th birthday. He quickly became a pro with bottles and diapers. His twin brothers think he is so cool. Christian is now married and finishing his time in the Army.

I couldn't be prouder of this kid. I love you Christian.

Good Morning! (Well, it is 1 am as I am writing this but most of you won't see this until the morning.) I love to promote local Flagstaff business. I have a small business as well and I think it is important to support our friends that are also trying to do what they love and support their families. Today I am going to tell you about the coolest way to get a personalized gift!

For more pictures/examples you should check out their facebook page. (Military Designs also available for laser etching as well.)

Using a CO2 Laser Etching Machine, Troy Hansen can personalize anything! He can laser etch on wood, metal, denim, canvas, glassware, etc. He can take almost any image and have the CO2 machine etch the design right onto the item. I was able to watch the process over the weekend and I was amazed. He took an image I liked, put the glass mug into the machine, lined it up and sent the image from his laptop. The machine goes back and forth using a laser to etch the design right into the item.

This was the design I chose:

This is the finished item:

It is really hard to take a picture of glassware. UGH!

These are some other items available. Although the machine can laser etch tons of different materials. Call Troy at Full Canopy Armory for a quote.
